Home water damage claims on the rise

According to one of our insurance suppliers “Chubb Insurance Australia Limited” who conducted a recent investigation into their own data over the past 10 years, reveals that the impact and cost of water damage losses in Australia is on the rise.

The report confirms that whilst there has been media focus and research on natural disasters such as floods and bush fires, very little research has been conducted on internal water damage within the home which is now more common and more costly than fire and burglary claims.

The report concludes that a lot of water damage does not necessary occur after heavy storms but occurs as a result of a range of simple causes such as blocked pipes, damaged roofs, worn out plumbing and damage to flexi hoses which are used on household appliances such as washing machines or dish washers.
